Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD) is a specialist reflexology sequence developed by Sally Kay whilst working in cancer care. It uses gentle pressure, in a precise way, to cause an effect on the lymphatic system within the whole body and is offered as a complementary wellbeing treatment. I trained with Sally Kay in March 2026 and am listed as an approved practitioner.
What is Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage?
RLD follows a particular sequence of reflexology on the feet. Although its name refers to lymphatic drainage, it is not MLD massage and it does not involve massage of the body. You remain clothed apart from removing your shoes and socks. Occasionally I will also work on the lower leg. RLD is not just for post cancer patients. I’ve found it valuable for those with artitiris, general limb swelling, post op recovery, as well as those with autoimmune conditions. Autoimmune conditions, and fibromyalgia often are best served just by attending to only the lymphatic sequence in a treatment. This is usually about 30 minutes. Please message or phone to discuss your particular challenge. It’s worth noting that the lymphatics are covered in a normal reflexology treatment, but the RLD technique is pure focus. It’s my most valued tool, and details of the PHD into this can be seen below. In my own case study of using RLD, my client with secondary lymphoedema enjoyed her affected arm reduce from being 38% larger than the other, to just 16% larger. Pain reduced also, mood lifted, and she was thrilled to be able to get her favourite jumper back on.
What happens during an RLD appointment?
Your appointment can take place in a zero-gravity chair or on a treatment table, depending on your comfort and mobility. We begin with a consultation so I can understand relevant health information and adapt the session to you. The pressure used should feel comfortable and can be adjusted at any time.
- A gentle, non-invasive sequence performed on the feet
- A calm home treatment room near Usk
- Positioning adapted for comfort and mobility
- Time to discuss questions before the session begins
Is RLD suitable for everyone?
People may choose RLD for relaxation and supportive wellbeing. Reflexology and RLD are complementary therapies: they do not diagnose, treat or cure medical conditions, and research into their effects is still developing. They should not replace advice or treatment from a qualified healthcare professional.
I am also happy to discuss your comfort, accessibility and whether an appointment may be appropriate.
